Around the clock, seven days a week

An innovation in container handling is the fully automated container warehouse that Wardenburg-based HIT Hafen- und Industrietechnik GmbH built together with the construction service provider Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau GmbH & Co. KG.

Such a fully automated container warehouse has been built in the middle of Berlin for the Tolmien shipping company, which serves as both a reference and a demonstration object. Those interested in this future-oriented system have the opportunity to see for themselves the functionality and cost-effectiveness of the system on site. “After our live demonstrations, everyone can operate the system completely on their own on the same day,” says Gerwin Eilers, Managing Director of HIT Hafen- und Industrietechnik.

When the American Malcolm McLean had the first sixty containers transported from Newark in the US state of New Jersey to Houston in Texas on a converted tanker around sixty years ago, no one could have imagined what a revolutionary innovation would be born. McLean had been working on the idea for 20 years. The system now operates clock, seven days a week, ensuring continuous efficiency and handling capacity.
