High-tech from Wardenburg helps big planes

When an aircraft needs to be overhauled, everything is a little bigger. It's not just the components of the machines that have remarkable dimensions. The equipment and tools used to overhaul the aircraft are also much larger than those in an automobile workshop. The Lufthansa Technik AG aircraft shipyard in Hamburg has now decided on two “move-e-stars” as a means of transport for use as dock transporters for special aircraft overhaul scaffolds.

The “move-e-star” transport platform developed by Wardenburger HIT Hafen- und Industrietechnik makes it possible to place the scaffolding, which weighs up to 20 tons, on the aircraft with millimeter precision. The basic system was individually adapted for this purpose. Four hydraulically swiveling telescopic columns allow various high work platforms to be accommodated. The work platforms are raised using the patented lifting system in the wheel axles. The “move-e-star” itself can be telescoped in the longitudinal axis by up to 2,400 mm using an existing telescopic device. This allows the distance between the lifting columns to be expanded from 2,900 mm to 5,300 mm. All functions can be controlled via a radio remote control.
